A young daughter came to her mother and told her about the ups and down of her life. She did not know what to do because things were so hard. She could not find the solution. She was tired of stressed and wanted to give up.
It was like if she solved one problem and the new one was stand up. Her mother asked her to come with me in kitchen.
She took three pots, filled them with water and put each on a high flame. Within a few minutes the pots came to boil. In the First one, she placed carrots, then in second she placed eggs and in the end she placed ground coffee beans.
She let them boil about twenty minutes, without saying a word. Then she turned off the flame. She took out the carrot and placed them in bowl. Then she pulled the eggs out and put them in a bowl. She dish out the coffee and placed in bowl. She didn’t say word during all this cooking.
After placing everything, she turned to her daughter and asked. “What do you see?"
She said, “Coffee, carrot and eggs.” Her mother asked her to come close and feel the carrots. She did and replied “they are soft.” Then she asked her to checked on egg and see how it is, she observer the hardboiled egg. In the end she asked her to sip a coffee. Then her daughter questioned her, “What does all this mean, mother?"
Her mother told her that each of these things had faced the same trauma – boiling water, but each thing reacted differently. The carrot changed to tough and hard. Though, after being boiled the water became softened and weak.
The egg had been delicate. Its outer shell had safe its liquid interior. But after sitting through the boiling water, became hardened inside. But the ground coffee beans were exceptional. Yet they were in the boiling water and they had changed the water.
“Now which one are you?” the mother asked to her daughter. When a hardship came to your door, how will you respond? The daughter thought, which am I? Am I the carrot that seems tough but with soreness and adversity. Am I the egg that start with a soft heart, but changed because of heat? Did I have a fluid spirit but after a hardship, a death or sorrow, does my shell look the same but inside I am a string and unpleasant with a hardened heart.
Or else am I like the coffee bean? The bean are the only one who changed the hot water, the very condition that passes the pain. When the water become hot, it gives the fragrance and taste.
If you are like the coffee bean, when things are their worse, you get recovered and change the situation around you. When the time are the darkest, do you lift up to another level?
How do you handle your sorrow? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?
